Vogalonga

Voga Longa

The first Sunday after Ascension (40 days after Easter Sunday), sees the Vogalonga, the Long Row, a 33 km (20 mile) row from St. Mark’s Basin through the lagoon and back via the Canale di Cannaregio and the Grand Canal.

Founded to encourage Venetian-style rowing, the event now attracts entries from all over Europe and great effort goes into decorating the boats. The best place to watch is in Cannaregio, where the boats re-enter the bottleneck canal to the cheers of the watching crowds.
