The theatre was dedicated to the famous comedian and playwright, who lived and wrote in the Venetian language. It is located in the center of Venice, between the Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge, and can easily be reached in a few minutes from the Rialto landing stage. It is also close to the Campo San Luca.
The theatre was built in the 1720s, on the wishes of the Vendramin family, and managed to engage Goldoni in 1752. In 1875, it was named after Goldoni, consideredthe city’s most important playwright at that time.
Goldoni’s Theatre was the youngest heir in the exceptional theatrical season Venice experienced between the 17th and 19th century. Today, it is the home theatre of the Teatro Stabile del Veneto.
The prose season at the Goldoni Theatre is characterized by the constant quest for quality, attempting to combine the avant-garde, and traditional style. The Goldoni is also open to all those who want to bring a particular atmosphere back to life. It offers a chance to organize not only concerts, presentations and conferences, but also fabulous dinners right on the theatre's stage. It is a dream occasion to breath in the atmosphere of 18th century Venice.
