Teatro Italia

The Teatro Italia, also called the Cinema Italia by the local Venetians, is one of the great theatres of ancient Venice. The building is typical of Byzantine architecture throughout the city.

The symbol of St Mark's winged lion adorns the roof of the theatre. A cast-iron bell towers over the entrance, reminding theatre-goers that a performance is ready to begin.

The theatre has hosted a number of great musical and opera productions over the past 500 years, from the legendary performers of old Venice to the productions that have marked its stage over the centuries. Most of what you see in Italy's theatre is original, and not restoration. This theatre's historical legacy far surpasses many others in the theatrical world.
