Zur zeitgenössischen Musik gehört Patty Pravo, die italienische Pop-Ikone aus Dorsoduro, die am Konservatorium Benedetto Marcello ausgebildet wurde. Auf dem Festland hingegen wurde die italienische Rockband Le Orme gegründet, die auch in der europäischen progressiven Szene bekannt und bei den Venezianern sehr beliebt war.
Die Lagune war schon Schauplatz großer Konzerte. Die berühmteste war die von Pink Floyd am 15. Juli 1989 während des Redentore-Festivals. Kein Italiener wird dieses großartige Konzert, das junge Menschen aus ganz Europa anzog, je vergessen. Nach dem Konzert fand das traditionelle Feuerwerk des Redentore-Festivals statt.
