The Gothic version of Palazzo Mocenigo appeared in 1579. But the building got its current look at the beginning of the 17th century. It became the residence of the San Stae branch of the Mocenigo family. Notably, it's one of the oldest and greatest Venetian families, who gave seven doges to the Republic. In fact, Lord Byron, Thomas Moore, and other famous people were guests of the palace.
In 1945, the last heir of the family, Count Alvise Nicolò Mocenigo, donated the palace to the city. He wanted Ca Mocenigo to serve as an art gallery and an addition to Museo Correr. As a result, in 1985, the building became the seat of the Study Center of the History of Fabrics and Costumes. It also functioned as a museum, which became even more engaging after a renovation in 2013.
